The Cambridge Crofters began by running a Folk Club in Cambridge in the early Sixties. Very soon they began singing at parties, weddings and other events and later expanded their instrumental capabilities to provide a full Ceilidh service for local dancers.

With many years of experience, they can provide a full evening’s entertainment in two flavours:

Concert material is varied and always carefully chosen to entertain the audience.

The Crofters are as confident performing to intimate groups of twenty or so as they are playing to large halls of 1000 or more,
such as at the Cambridge Arts Theatre and the Cambridge Corn Exchange.

For many years now they have organised
an Annual Concert for charity. The last two have played to capacity audiences in the Arts Theatre in Cambridge and have raised about £3,000 each for local charities.

Many of their concerts also feature the Cafferkey Irish Dancers.

The popularity of the Ceilidh (sometimes called a Barn Dance) has increased enormously in the last 30 years.

Once the province of the specialist, the Crofters find that these days they play for dances ranging from School fundraising ventures to village socials and fetes and even weddings (bar mitzvahs and funerals have yet to be attempted!).

Since they provide a complete package comprising the music, the caller and entertainment between dances, an organiser merely has to provide the venue, the refreshments and the people.

Usually, the magic words ‘The Cambridge Crofters’ on the poster will ensure no shortage of the latter!
